Daniel Craig Is Coming Back as James Bond in 2019

Daniel Craig as James Bond in a scene from the 2015 film “Spectre.” He will return as Bond in 2019.
Sound the trumpets: Daniel Craig will play James Bond in at least one more film, which will be released in November 2019.
Eon Productions, the London-based company that oversees all things 007, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which holds rights to the franchise, said on Monday that the next installment would arrive in theaters in North America on Nov. 8, 2019.
That will put moviedom’s most famous spy in direct competition with a live-action fairy tale from Walt Disney Studios. (Disney claimed the date last year but has not yet disclosed the specific movie.)

Eon and MGM also said that the script would be written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have teamed up on the screenplays for the last six Bond installments, starting with “The World Is Not Enough” in 1999. The next Bond movie — the 25th in the series, if you exclude “Never Say Never Again” from 1983, which was made by an outside production company — will be produced by Eon’s Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

The companies said in a statement that details about a distribution partner, international release dates and the film’s cast and director would be announced “at a later date.” But Mr. Craig’s return is a done deal, according to two people briefed on the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid conflicts with Eon and MGM.

After a grueling shoot for the last Bond movie, “Spectre,” Mr. Craig expressed a strong desire to move on from the role, which he took over in 2006 with “Casino Royale.” “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” he told a British magazine in October. He later said that he had been overtired during that interview and that he would consider returning.

Saif Ali Khan turns 46

The Nawab of Bollywood Saif Ali Khan is turning 46 today. Wishing him a happy birthday, indianexpress.com will like to take you through a journey of how this Pataudi kid, who debuted with Yash Chopra’s Parampara in 1993, vaulted himself to the pantheon of Bollywood’s finest performers.
It’s been 24 years since that movie. And let us tell you, Saif’s journey has been really incredible. From Vicky Saigal’s Ole Ole to Ishwar Langda Tyagi in Omkara, Saif has come a long way. He has truly undergone a makeover. Here’s a look at five of his badass roles that have played a part in redefining his filmography.

1. Omkara

Until Vishal Bhardwaj’s dark entertainer Omkara arrived in 2006, Saif Ali Khan was pigeon-holed as an actor only suitable for the boy-next-door roles, having done films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Dil Chahta Hai and Hum Tum. But Ishwar Langda Tyagi brought out Saif’s acting prowess like never before.

2. Cocktail

The 46-year-old may be playing a romantic-at-heart Gautam in this film but not without an added sense of maturity to it. Not only did Gautam fight a complex battle about who to love, his dialogues were on point and made a lasting impact.

3. Race

This Abbas-Mustan series saw Saif play a badass Ronnie, the ultimate mastermind behind all the plans and made us fall in love with Saif’s acting even more. Looking dapper in his grey avatar, Saif really stole the show in this film.

4. Bullett Raja

Before this Tigmanshu Dhulia release, one couldn’t have imagined Saif play a UP ‘gunda’ ever. But Saif donned this avatar with such finesse and dexterity that it left audiences impressed.

5. Go Goa Gone

This zombie comedy saw Saif play a Russian-cum-Delhi mafioso Borris who is also a zombie slayer. With some kickass dialogues and perfect comic timing, Saif aced this role. Even though the film was a failure at the box office, it was appreciated for being innovative.

Cut to 2017, Saif has films like Chef, Kalakaandi and Bazaar in his kitty. Saif has truly become an actor to watch out for and he can even give the young stars a run for their money.

We wish Saif a very happy birthday and hope that he continues to deliver such power-packed performances in the future as well!

India's toilet crisis now on silver screen

Bollywood may be famous for its blingy song and dance numbers, but a new film released Friday deals with a distinctly less glamorous subject-India’s chronic lack of toilets.

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi has made building more toilets a key priority in the country of 1.25 billion people, around half of whom still have to go into the fields to answer the call of nature.

Campaigners estimate that nearly 200,000 infants die every year due to infections spread through open defecation, which they say also puts women at risk of sexual assault.

“Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” (“Toilet: A love story”) is inspired by the true-life tale of one man’s battle to build toilets in his village in rural India.

He wanted to win back his new wife, whose refusal to live in a house without a toilet won her plaudits in India.

Script writers Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal told AFP they hoped the movie, featuring one of Bollywood’s biggest stars Akshay Kumar, would have a “tangible impact” on Indian society.

“This happened in a village in Madhya Pradesh, and we thought that was a strong statement,” said Singh, referring to one of India’s most rural states.

The writers said they came across numerous stories of women being assaulted when they went into the fields late at night in the process of researching the movie.

“But defecating in the open is not only unhealthy it is also dangerous,” said Garima.

“While we were doing our research we heard of three incidents of molestation. Crimes against women have increased owing to their vulnerability when they are out in the fields, alone in the dark, with their ‘pants down’ as it were.”

Garima said it was hypocritical for Indian society to insist that women cover up on the one hand, while on the other forcing them to “expose themselves owing to a lack of sanitary and bathroom facilities”.

Kumar, one of the world’s highest paid actors with an income of $31.5 million according to a Forbes ranking published last year, recently released a “Toilet Anthem” to promote the cause.

“While mankind has progressed far enough to journey to Mars and scale Mount Everest, 54 percent of India defecates in the open,” says the song.

Modi has called for every household in India to have a toilet.

Last year, he announced that his government had already built more than 20 million toilets since coming to power in 2014.

Around two-thirds of homes in the village that the movie is based on now have toilets, according to media reports.

“Our script was ready in 2014 and we felt we should get it going while it is still a hot topic.
It’s especially important to get people in rural areas to watch this film,” said Garima.

1 Million dance lovers join Japan’s ‘Awa’ fest

Over a million performers and spectators will flock to a western Japanese city this weekend for one of the country’s largest dance festivals, after organisers stepped up efforts to accommodate foreign visitors.

The annual “Awa Odori”, which originates from a Japanese Buddhist custom of honouring the spirits of ancestors, sees the otherwise sleepy city of Tokushima turn into a stage for four days.

Groups of dancers and musicians, known as “ren”, parade through the streets to the sound of traditional music instruments such as lutes, drums, flutes and bells.

Sporting Japanese kimono costumes with hair bands or straw hats, they chant in chorus and dance in synchronised choreography.

The number of participants, including performers, is expected to hit the same number as last year, when 1.2 million took part in the centuries-old carnival.

“You need practice when you do other Japanese traditional performing arts, but anyone can enjoy Awa Odori... only by raising hands and taking steps to the rhythm,” said 32-year-old dancer Masayuki Tatekawa.Performers prepare to dedicate their dance to a temple before the Awa Odori festival in Tokushima on 12 August, 2017.

Kenji Kitamura, an organiser, added: “This is a dance festival welcoming everybody as they can watch, sing, dance.

“This year we are especially putting the emphasis on foreign visitors as the number of tourists from other countries to Japan is increasing.”

He added that this year there would be English signs and temporary western-style toilets.

The country has launched a “Visit Japan” campaign ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the government said last month that travellers to Japan from other countries had jumped 17.4 percent to a record 13.8 million for the first half of 2017.
